A museum of archaeological findings in Balneario de Archena, Spain

During recent months important archaeological findings we made in Balneario de Archena during the construction of an underground parking garage.
These findings include human remains of a 20-30 year old woman in a Tardorroman tomb.
She was discovered in a stone box dating between the 5th and 7th centuries AD. Also found were an irrigation ditch, chattel, Italic ceramics, two coins from Cartagonova times in the 1st century BC, one from Augusto and the other one from Tiberio.

Balneario de Archena authorities, highly interested in preserving all findings, would like to build a museum at the site for people to visit, as part of the Region of Murcia Museum.

On 9 February 2007 the project was presented in the  presence of the General Manager of Culture Mr. José Miguel Noguera, the General Manager from Balneario de Archena Mr. Miguel Lloret, Mr. Francisco Fernandez from the Archena Council, and the archaeologist and director of the excavation, Mr. Gonzalo Matilla.
This matter is extremely important to Balneario de Archena in its efforts to recover and learn the history of the Region of Murcia.

Archena will open the Archaeological Museum at the end of 2007.
The archaeological findings are more than 2000 years old and visitors will see them from on top of a wood footbridge.

This museum will be part of the group of the Region of Murcia museums.
