12th Annual Congress of ESPA in Pärnu, Estonia
The city of Pärnu and Estonian SPA Association (ESPAL) in collaboration with Pärnu Convention Bureau are hosting the annual event of ESPA on 9th to 13th of May 2007. It is the first time the high-level congress of ESPA is taking place in the Baltic countries.
The European Spas Association (ESPA) is an umbrella organisation representing 24 members from 22 European countries. The European Community and those countries wishing to join organisation are seeking to work together on matters of common interest, which requires a greater co-operation of the national and regional associations as well as the private sector in the field of spas and balneology.
The city of Pärnu is a member of ESPA since 1999. Pärnu has been one of the most appealing resorts in the Baltic States for almost 170 years. The tradition of spa treatments in Pärnu started in the in 1838 when first bathing establishment was founded. Besides treatment facilities the citizens of Pärnu have throughout the years significantly contributed to upholding the image of the resort. Regarding to the topic, "Baltic balneology yesterday, today and tomorrow" conference is taking place as a satellite event of the ESPA congress.
Meetings of the ESPA commissions and working groups as well as lectures are all taking place in Strand SPA & Conference Hotel. Around 150 delegates from 19 countries are expected to attend the event. The first part of the congress concentrates on the different systems of the spa stays in selected European countries. The use of peloid in spa medicine, Thalasso Therapy and Kneipp are under discussion on the second day. After the congress delegates are offered an opportunity to discover Estonian nature in Pärnu County or visit the spa cities of Haapsalu and Kuressaare.
